Hiro Sushi - Soba Sunday
October 29th, 2006Third time is the charm. And so it was on our third attempt that Michelle and I finally got a seat at Hiro Sushi (King & Jarvis) for Soba Sunday.
I had heard about this unique menu for years now. Serving only Soba from 11 AM to 3 PM on Sunday. No sushi. So I thought it must be awesome if they can say ‘no’ to any customer who might be looking for sushi on Sundays.
Two weeks ago, we went there 3:15 PM and while the place was not closed, they told us it was closed. Fine. I can understand that.
One week ago, we went there 1:30 PM and they told us it was sold out… I guess it’s entirely possible but considering we had paid parking for both occasions, we were beginning to feel something personal about all these. But then, this lack of ’supply’ certainly piqued my curiosity… so we promised to come back.
Then this Sunday, early 11 AM, we made a reservation. Soba for lunch. Menu is fairly short and price ranged from $13 to $20, which included Soba, Sobayu and a dessert. I was full afterwards so I guess the amount wasn’t lacking. Taste…I am sure is something you cultivate. Mind you it wasn’t bad but I didn’t quite like Tororo (a Japanese yam with a slimy texture)…
Without going into much detail… it was a very interesting meal. It’s not something I would go back but definitely worthwhile to try at least once in your life. If you do go though, try their Crab. I might order that if I ever go back with a curios friend or two.
